Cards Hit the Road to Face Drexel, Indiana

Louisville will travel to Bloomington, Ind. to face Drexel Saturday and IU Sunday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville field hockey team will hit the road for the first time in the 2025 campaign when the Cards travel to Bloomington, Ind. for a pair of games starting with a neutral site matchup against Drexel on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Cardinals will then take on host Indiana Sunday at 12 p.m.

• The Cards are coming off of an impressive 2-0 performance at home last weekend after beating Michigan State 6-1 in their season opener and following with a 5-0 victory over Ohio.
• Senior Rylie Wollerton scored five of the Cardinals' 11 goals and dished out one assist for a team-best 11 points on the early season.
• Overall, seven different players scored at least one goal through the first two games of the season In addition to Wollerton's five, Lauren Masters tallied two goals while Gigi Edwards, Gracie Potter, Annabel Sep and Chloe Cuzzupe also contributed to the total.
• The Cardinals' defense has allowed only one goal thus far with sophomore goalkeeper Emily Young earning both wins and carrying a 0.54 goals against average.

• Wollerton and Bianco, along with junior forward Lauren Masters, are members of the U.S. Junior National Team. The trio recently helped the USA to a silver medal in the Junior Pan American Games in August.
• Bianco, Masters and Wollerton were named to the 2025 NFHCA Collegiate Watch List
• The 2025 Louisville field hockey co-captains are Bianco, senior midfielder Chloe Cuzzupe and
senior back Tatum Kroon
• The Cardinals were picked to finish eighth in the ACC preseason coaches poll.
• The Cardinals return 17 letterwinners after a rebuilding year that saw a 6-11 overall record and a 1-7 mark in ACC play. Louisville also welcomes six newcomers to this year's squad.
• The 2025 slate features 10 opponents who are ranked among the top 20 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association preseason rankings – six of those teams stand in the top 10. Eight of Louisville's 2025 opponents were NCAA tournament teams last season including national champion Northwestern and runner-up Saint Joseph's along with semifinalist North Carolina.
• Louisville's Trager Stadium will serve as the host site for the 2025 ACC Championship. The Cardinals last hosted the event in 2017 when they advanced to the title game.
• Justine Sowry is entering her 15th season at the helm. During her tenure, Sowry has guided the Cardinals to nine NCAA tournament appearances, advancing to the quarterfinals in three of the last six years and reaching the semifinals in 2020.

Last Meeting: Oct. 16, 2011 – Drexel won 1-0 in Philadelphia
Scouting the Dragons: Drexel enters the weekend with a 1-1 record. After defeating Central Michigan 2-1 in their season the opener, the Dragons fell to Lafayette 2-0.
• Drexel was tabbed the 2025 Coastal Athletic Association preseason favorite after winning the conference regular season title last year. In 2024, the Dragons were 14-5 and 6-0 in league play.
• Valentine Van Hellemont was unanimously selected as the 2025 CAA Preseason Player of the Year after earning NFHCA All-America second team honors in 2024. Joining Van Hellemont on the Preseason All-CAA Team are Anna Castaldo, Marti Sanabria, and goalkeeper Alana Poole.
• Drexel is coached by 2024 CAA Coach of the Year Denise Zelenak who is in her 31st season at the helm.

Series History: Louisville leads 18-7
Last Meeting: Oct. 10, 2023 – The Cardinals squeaked out a 1-0 win in their last matchup against the Hoosiers, scoring on a penalty corner in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals held an 8-2 shot advantage and 4-0 penalty corner advantage before the subsequent game winning goal.
Scouting the Hoosiers: Indiana (1-1) comes into the matchup with a couple games under their belt, with a loss coming to No. 8 Boston College, and in their most recent matchup, a win against Maine. The Hoosiers take on the Cardinals at Deborah Tobias Field on Sept. 7 at noon.
• Head Coach Kayla Bashore is entering her seventh season at the helm for the Hoosiers.
• She led Indiana to a Big Ten Tournament appearance last year, going 4-4 in conference play.
• The Hoosiers return some talent from last year, as sophomore Mijntje Hagen, junior Ines Garcia Prado, and senior Emma Thompson were named to the Big Ten's preseason players to watch list, and Garcia Prado was also named to the NFHCA Division I Watchlist.
