Louisville Hosts James Madison in Friday Night Matchup

The Cards and the Dukes have only met once before, on Nov. 5, 2022, when UofL took down JMU 34-10 in Cardinal Stadium. Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham passed for 223 yards with three touchdowns in the win. Running back Tiyon Evans rushed for 126 yards and found the endzone once, while wide receiver Tyler Hudson totaled six receptions for 142 yards and one touchdown.

With the score tied at 10 at the half, the Cards added 24 points in the second half. Evans' lone score of the game came on a 71-yard rush to double UofL's lead in the third quarter. The Louisville defense totaled 63 tackles in the game with one sack coming from linebacker Dorian Jones.

The win over James Madison allowed the Cards to become bowl-eligible in 2022 for the second consecutive season and 25th time in program history.

Notes on Louisville
UofL is coming off a 51-17 season-opening win over Eastern Kentucky last Saturday at L&N Stadium. The win marked head coach Jeff Brohm's third consecutive win in a season opener at Louisville.Â

Running back Isaac Brown led the Cards run game with 126 yards and two scores on just six attempts. Averaging 21.0 yards per carry in his performance, Brown was named ACC Running Back of the Week on Tuesday. This is the fifth time Brown has taken home the award in his two seasons.Â

In his Louisville debut, quarterback Miller Moss threw for 231 yards with one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown. Wide receiver Caullin Lacy now has the second longest punt return in program history with a 93-yard score for the Cards.Â

UofL had 39 newcomers make an appearance in Saturday's game, including 10 true freshmen making their collegiate debut. A transfer from Coastal Carolina, defensive lineman Clev Lubin posted two of Louisville's four sacks on the Colonels. Freshman defensive lineman Eric Hazzard had two solo tackles for the Cards in his first collegiate game.

James Madison took a 45-10 win over Weber State in Harrisonburg, Va., on Saturday to start off its season. The Dukes totaled 313 rushing yards in the game, with running backs George Pettaway and Wayne Knight combining for 188 of those.

All three of JMU's quarterbacks recorded rushing touchdowns against Weber State. Starter Alonza Barnett III passed for 130 yards on 14 completions with one touchdown through the air. Backup quarterback Matthew Sluka added his own passing touchdown, going 3-for-4 with 15 passing yards and 30 yards on the ground.Â

The James Madison defense held Weber State to just 148 total yards, forcing three turnovers, all on interceptions. Senior linebacker Trent Hendrick made his first career start against Louisville in 2022, recording seven tackles and one TFL. Against Weber State, Hendrick posted the same stats.
