Louisville Looks Ahead to Doubles Competition at ITA All Americans

Cressoni, El Amine pick up singles wins on day two
TULSA, Okla. - University of Louisville men's tennis had two players earn wins in the round of 128 in the prequalifying round of ITA All Americans, but ended day two with no further advancements.Â
Pedro Cressoni got an early start to the day, upsetting Aleksi Loffman of San Diego State who was seeded at 21 by a score of 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).Â
Returner Hamza El Amine claimed the other singles win for the Cards in a dramatic three-set thriller where he defeated Fransico Llanes of South Florida, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3).Â
Andre' Steinbach also advanced in the prequalifying round, but fell early to Tulane's Daniel Phillips by a score of 6-3, 7-5.Â
Now playing in the round of 64, Cressoni fell to Dayton's Mikkel Zinder 6-4, 6-2 and El Amine dropped his contest to Stetson's Alexandre Verlaguet, 6-2, 6-2 to end Louisville's singles run for the main draw at ITA All Americans.Â
The Cards will turn their attention to the doubles portion of All Americans, as No. 51 El Amine and Walid Ahouda will make their debut on Sept. 22 at 5:30 pm ET in the qualifying round after bypassing the prequalifying round. The duo is seeded at nine and will go head-to-head with UCLA's Andy Nguyen and Aadarsh Tripathi.Â
