Brohm Pleased after First Scrimmage

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville football team is headed in the right direction after Saturday's first scrimmage of fall camp inside of L&N Stadium.
After the first seven practices, the Cardinals conducted their first major scrimmage of fall camp under intense heat.
"I think for the most part it was a good scrimmage," Brohm said. "Offensively, our first unit, the playmakers showed up and made plays. The back-ups have to pick it up but that's normal. They haven;t been in the pressure situations like this. On defense, I think we are getting better; preventing big plays or passes over our head. I thought we got push upfront by our defensive line. We got batted balls and great effort by the defensive line."
In the first scrimmage setting of the fall, quarterback Miller Moss showed a live arm, accuracy and the ability to get the football into the hands of his playmakers. He was able to make a pretty connection to Chris Bell in the back of the end zone and was able to stay away from mistakes.
"He's got great poise and tht showed up today," Brohm said. "He's calm in the pocket. He can deliver the ball accurately. He stood in the pocket at times and made plays. I think he's a veteran who understands the position, and he'll play well."
One thing Moss can count on is the fact that he's got some veterans returning at the wide receiver position in Chris Bell and Caullin Lacy. Bell is the team's top returning receiver after catching 43 passes for 737 yards last season and Lacy, despite missing most of the 2024 season, was one of the most explosive receivers nationally at South Alabama.
"I do think Chris and Caullin have been consistent this camp. They're two veteran playmakers that will get many targets. Behind that, that room is unproven. There are four and five guys in the mix for playing time. They need to be consistent and just do the small things right."
The Cardinals had three starters leave from last year's team, and Brohm went the transfer route to improve the line and bolster some of the depth. Brohm knows that it will take time to jell, but overall was pleased where they are after eight practices."
"We've been pretty consistent upfront," said Brohm on the offensive line. "We tried to be a little pass happy today and make them protect. We had some things that we have to clean up but overall I was pleased with their performance."
