Brohm Tabs Dale Williams to Lead the Offensive Line
February 23, 2026 | Football
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Dale Williams, who brings more than 25 years of experience, has returned to the University of Louisville as the offensive line coach, head coach Jeff Brohm announced.
Williams rejoins the Cardinals after spending the past two seasons (2024–25) as offensive line coach at Syracuse.
In his first season with the Orange, Williams mentored a line that powered the nation's top passing offense. The offensive line protected quarterback Kyle McCord as he set a new ACC single season passing record, led the country in passing yards and finished among the top 10 in Heisman Trophy voting.
Williams' group also paved the way for running back LeQuint Allen Jr. to surpass 1,000 rushing yards. Offensive linemen Savion Washington and Jakob
Bradford earned All-ACC honors for their performances in 2024.
Williams originally joined Syracuse after a season with the Cardinals as the program's quality control coach, helping UofL to its first-ever ACC Championship Game appearance and a 10-win campaign in the first season under Brohm.
Prior to Louisville, Williams spent six seasons as offensive line coach at Purdue. He helped lead the Boilermakers to the 2022 Big Ten West title and bowl victories over University of Tennessee in the 2021 Music City Bowl and University of Arizona in the 2017 Foster Farms Bowl.
During his tenure with the Boilermakers, Purdue produced some of the top offensive seasons in school history. In 2021, the Boilermakers set single-season program records for passing yards (4,620), completions (407), completion percentage (.708) and passing first downs (221). The team averaged 355.4 passing yards per game — fifth nationally and second in the Big Ten. Linemen Gus Hartwig, Greg Long and Tyler Witt earned All-Big Ten recognition.
In 2020, Williams' unit helped Purdue average 390.5 total yards per game and lead the Big Ten in passing offense (309.0 yards per game). Hartwig, Long, Grant Hermanns and Spencer Holstage were honorable mention All-Big Ten selections.
The Boilermakers averaged 393.2 yards of total offense in 2019, 443.9 yards per game in 2018 and 403.1 yards per game in Williams' first season in 2017. Matt McCann (2018, 2019), Kirk Barron (2017, 2018) and David Steinmetz (2017) collected all-league honors during that stretch.
Before Purdue, Williams served as offensive line coach at Western Kentucky in 2016. The Hilltoppers averaged 45.5 points and 523.1 total yards per game, including 336.8 passing yards per contest. The offensive line allowed just 22 sacks on 471 pass attempts. Offensive tackle Forrest Lamp earned Third-Team All-America and First-Team All-Conference USA honors before being selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers. Western Kentucky capped the season with a victory over University of Memphis in the Boca Raton Bowl.
Williams also has coaching stops at Florida Atlantic, Findlay, Gardner-Webb, North Greenville and West Virginia, in addition to four seasons at Lake Worth and Olympic Heights high schools.
At Florida Atlantic (2005–11), Williams helped transform the Owls into a consistent postseason program. In 2007, FAU claimed a share of the Sun Belt title and earned its first bowl berth, defeating Memphis football in the New Orleans Bowl. The following season, the Owls closed the year by winning five of their final six games and picked up a win in the Motor City Bowl.

During that span, FAU ranked among the nation's top 15 in fewest sacks allowed, protecting quarterback Rusty Smith, the 2007 Sun Belt Player of the Year. Linemen John Rizzo, Jarrid Smith and David Matlock earned All-Sun Belt honors.
Williams' offensive line also helped produce the first 1,000-yard rusher in program history in 2008, when Charles Pierre ran for 1,009 yards. In 2009, Alfred Morris set a school record with 1,392 rushing yards and followed with 928 yards in 2010.
Williams spent five seasons at Findlay (2000–04), serving as offensive line coach before adding offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator duties. His 2002 squad finished 9-2 and ranked No. 25 nationally, allowing just 15 sacks while paving the way for Robert Campbell's 1,564-yard rushing season. In 2004, Michael Sampson set a then-school record with 1,659 rushing yards.
He previously coached the offensive line at Gardner-Webb (1997–99) after two seasons at North Greenville and began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, West Virginia.
