Couron & Yeast Set Program Records to Open Home Weekend
April 25, 2025 | Track & Field
Couron cleared a bar of 5.36m (17-7) in the men’s pole vault, and Yeast clocked a time of 23.09 in the women’s 200m.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track & field teams broke a pair of program records on Friday at a rain-soaked Cardinal Park to open the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational.
Lucas Couron posted a final clearance of 5.36m (17-7) in the men's pole vault to shatter his personal best and leap to the top of the Louisville record books. The junior's mark betters Sean Roth's previous school record of 5.33m (17-1.75) that had stood since 2022.
Along with Couron's program-best bar, Kiyah Yeast reset the school record in the women's 200m for the third time this season, winning the event in an ACC-leading time of 23.09. The time smashes her previous record of 23.22 that came at the Jim Click Shootout & Multis on April 5 while giving her the four fastest 200m times in school history.
Jayden Ulrich also picked up an event victory in the invitational section of the women's shot put, recording a toss of 17.68m (58-2.25) to win the competition by over five feet.
In the invitational section of the men's shot put, Noah Koch flexed his muscle with a Louisville-best mark of 18.07m (59-3.5) to finish third overall and move up to sixth in program history. Johnny Sabinski also stepped into the shot put ring, notching a runner-up finish in the open section with a personal-best toss of 15.83m (51-11.25).
Keira Antoni also leapt up the Louisville record books in the 400m hurdles, moving up to fourth in school history by knocking nearly two full seconds off her seed time with a time of 59.74 that earned the freshman a third-place finish.
In the men's 800m, JB Terrill continued his ascension up the all-time leaderboard, battling to a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:51.24 that moves him to seventh in Louisville history.
Miller Jones earned a fourth-place finish of his own in the men's long jump, leaping to a season-best mark of 7.39m (24-3) to etch his name into a tie for ninth in program history, while Ryan Drwal finished fourth in the men's javelin throw with a toss of 54.02m (177-2).
The Cards rounded out the day with a pair of fifth-place finishes in the hammer throw as Matt Giuliano recorded an ACC-standard mark of 58.37m (191-6) in the men's event, while Demaria King threw 54.02m (177-2) to round out the top five on the women's side.
Action at Card Park will resume tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. ET with the women's discus throw, while the day's track events are set to get underway at 1:00 p.m. ET with the women's 100m hurdles. Admission to the meet costs $10 per person.
