LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Coming off a 9-4 season, the new-look University of Louisville football team opened spring drills outside on the Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex Practice Fields.
After Monday's practice, head coach Jeff Brohm all spoke with reporters and shared his thoughts on the start of spring ball. The Cardinals welcomed over 40 new players to the practice field on a cool, crisp afternoon practice.
The Cardinals worked out for a little over two hours in shorts and helmets on the first day of spring practice.
The Cardinals return 10 starters on both sides of the football, with five coming on each side of the football.
Head coach Jeff Brohm:
On all the newcomers:
There are quite a fen w new faces out there. So while we've been around in weight workouts, meetings, this is the first true time in an on the field practice setting. So we've
got some work to do getting to know everyone. We'll take plenty of practice to make sure we're on top of that, and we're studying it. We're getting better. And, you know, it's, it's quite a bit of a new team . That's just the nature of where we're at right now, but we like what we have here. We just got to put the work in. We've got to get as many reps as we can, watch it on video and figure out ways to be as sharp as we possibly can."
On Miler Moss:
"I like Miller a lot. I think he gives us veteran deposition. He's got experience. He's played some football, and just like Tyler, he's had some ups, he's had some downs. But I like his mental makeup. I think he works really hard. I think he can throw the football. He can control it most part. He's got to put your grasp already in what we're doing. So I think he will continue to get better at that. But we like his abilities. I think that you got to figure out what he's best at and continue to do those things, but I think he'll be productive for us."
On his third-straight transfer QB:
"I would say it's a similar situation to Jack (Plummer)and Tyler (Shough). All three guys have played football. Three guys had adversity along the way and had some good moments, and I missed it, probably they'd like to have back. I think Miller has shown intelligence. He understands what we're doing in some form or fashion, while maybe different terminology, he's done similar things. I think he knows we want to give him some weapons around him and find ways for him to be successful and make him as sharp as he could be, and that's always our job as coaches is to adjust the offense to fit what he's good at. We want to make sure that every game he's as efficient as possible. And while we want to ask him to make plays, we don't ask him too much as well. But he's shown the great understanding of this point."
