U of L offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Brian Brohm has liked what he's seen from the Ohio State transfer and thinks he can bring a different dimension to the offense.
"He has a big arm and can throw all around the field," Brian Brohm said. "He's athletic. I envision us using his legs, using his athleticism in some of the run game, read game, read option game. He can do all those things that maybe we haven't done in the past. He adds an extra element to the offense."
"Lincoln was highly recruited out of high school; he was in a good system and learned a lot of football at Ohio State," Brian Brohm said. "He was in a quarterback battle, he was not able to win, but was right there and in position to be the starting quarterback at Ohio State.
"We went back and watched his spring stuff, watched his high school stuff, watched his reps he had in games, and really liked the ability he had and his upside. Now, with him compared to the other guys that we have had, he obviously has less experience. The last three years, we have taken guys who started a lot of football games.
"He's a guy we have to develop, go to ready for real live action, but we are really high on his talents."
Coming from a program like Ohio State, the transition has been rather seamless despite the complexity of the Louisville offense.
"Coach Brohm has had a good history with QBs who have been drafted in the NFL," he said. "They know the game and what it takes to be a QB.
"That intrigued me a lot. It was an easy three-hour trip down here from Ohio State, so it was all easy for me. And just the success they have had and the offense they have been able to throw the ball and to and control the running game."
Kienholz, a former four-star recruit from Pierre, South Dakota, spent three seasons with the Buckeyes and was in a fierce battle with 2025 Heisman finalist Julian Sayin.
A product of.Riggs High School, Kienholz was chosen as the USA Today National High School Athlete of the Year in 2023. He was listed as the No. 138 overall prospect in his class and the No. 11 quarterback target nationally.
Kienholz appeared in 10 games over three seasons at Ohio State. In limited action, he completed 21 of 36 attempts for 250 yards and a touchdown.
The four quarterbacks at the University of Louisville met the media as a group during the third spring practice. Briggs Cherry, Lincoln Kienholz, Davin Wydner are all new to the program, while Ryan Zimmerman, who was recently added as a scholarship player, is the lone returning signal caller.
