Cards Place Three on Podium to Open ACC Indoor Championships

Natalie Lark (women’s pole vault) and Layla Roebke (women’s 5000m) both posted runner-up finishes, while Brion Stephens claimed bronze in the men’s high jump.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track & field teams concluded the first of three days of competition at the ACC Indoor Championships on Saturday, earning a trio of podium finishes to go with a total of 10 personal-best performances.
Through the first five events of the weekend, the Louisville women sit third in the team standings with 23 points while the men's squad ranks in a tie for ninth through four events with seven points.
Layla Roebke stole the show for the Cardinals, knocking nearly 35 seconds off her previous personal-best to finish as the runner-up in the women's 5000m with a time of 15:48.28, the second-fastest time in program history.
Natalie Lark earned a silver medal of her own in the women's pole vault for the second consecutive season, clearing a final bar of 4.42m (14-6) to continue her stellar senior season. In her first indoor conference championship meet, Iliana Triantafyllou finished fourth in the event to earn Second Team All-ACC honors while setting a new personal-best mark of 4.22m (13-10).
Rounding out the podium finishers for the Cards was Brion Stephens, who claimed the bronze in the men's high jump with a clearance of 2.16m (7-1) to garner First Team All-ACC distinction for the third straight year.
Lucy Fellows accrued a total of 3,850 points to finish seventh overall in the women's pentathlon while notching a new personal-best time of 8.81 in the 60m hurdles. Noah Koch also scored a point for Louisville in the men's weight throw, placing eighth in the event with a mark of 20.21m (66-3.75).
Kiyah Yeast qualified for Monday's finals in the women's 200m with the second-fastest time in the preliminary round, clocking 23.41 to set a new personal-best and inch closer to the program record of 23.38.
In the men's heptathlon, KJ Byrd began his first collegiate action with a bang, tallying 3,287 points through the first four events while setting three new personal-best marks. The freshman most notably posted a whopping six personal-best clearances in the high jump, finishing with a mark of 2.13m (6-11.75) to lead the heptathlon competitors while also posting the top long jump mark in the field with a leap of 7.16m (23-6).
Action at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center will resume tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. ET with the continuation of the men's heptathlon while track events are set to begin at 3:15 p.m. ET.
