Louisville Sweeps Austin Peay to Improve to 4-1 on the Season
February 07, 2025 | Women's Tennis
The doubles duo of Alice Otis and Elisabeth Iila knock off the 25th ranked duo in the country 7-5
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's tennis team earned its third straight win, defeating Austin Peay 7-0 Friday night at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals are now 4-1 on the season.
"Hapy about the win," said UofL head coach Mark Beckham. "We actually got down a little bit in doubles but the way they fought back was good. We got a nationally ranked doubles win against the 25th duo in the country so that's always good. I liked the way they showed up and fought. In singles it was more of the same. We played well in a number of spots but were tight in some spots as well, but for the most part it was one of those matches I can't really complain about. So, we're going to try and use this to get better as we have a very tough match Saturday against Indiana."
In doubles action, the pairing of Allie Gretkowski and Lika Peresypkina made quick work on Court 1, winning 6-1 to remain undefeated on the young season. The biggest moment of the match came in Court 2 as the duo of Alice Otis and Elisabeth IIla came from behind to knock of the Governor's 25th ranked duo of Luca Bohlen and Pauline Bruns 7-5 to clinch the double point for the Cardinals.
The Spaniard duo of Berta Miret and Elena Noguero defeated Yu-Hua Cheng and Elena Thiel of Austin Peay, 6-3 on Court 3.
Turning to singles play, Iila made quick work on Court 3 defeating Asia Fontana 6-3, 6-1 to extend the UofL lead. On Court 3, Miret made quick of Bruns, 6-2, 6-3 to put Louisville a point away from clinching the match.
Germany Davis clinched the match for the Cards after a straight set victory on Court 5, 6-3, 6-3 to improve to 4-0 in singles action on the season.
On Court 1 Alice Otis secured the win after a tightly contested third set tiebreaker 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (13-11) to improve to 4-1 individually on the season.
Gretkowski and Noguero both prevailed in three-sets on Courts 2 and 4, respectively, to close out the win for Louisville.
UofL will hit the road to face regional foe Indiana next Saturday, February 15 with first serve slated for 12 p.m. ET
