Louisville falls 4-2 to regional rival Indiana
BLOOMINGTON, IND. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team drops heart breaker 4-2 against Indiana on Saturday evening at the IU Tennis Center.Â
Doubles competition remained close, but the Cards ultimately dropped the point to Indiana 0-2. The Hoosiers pair of Jip van Assendelft and Michael Andre were the first to finish, defeating Andre' Steinbach and Kosuke Nakanishi 6-4 on Court 1. Matteo Antonescu and Sam Scherer followed suit with a 7-5 victory on Court 2 over Natan Rodrigues and Will Mayew.
Hamza El Amine and Enrique Peña remained in a tough battle on Court 3 and forced a tiebreaker, but the match was abandoned at 6-6.Â
After Indiana claimed the point on Court 4, Mayew was the first Card to finish in singles competition, defeating Andre 6-3, 6-3 in straight sets on Court 3. The Hoosiers then took Court 6 before Rodrigues won his battle 6-3, 6-3 on Court 1.
Indiana clinched the win with a three-set victory on Court 2. El Amine put up a strong fight on Court 5, rallying back to force at third set, but the match was abandoned 4-6, 6-4, 1-2.Â
The Cards will enjoy a week and a half off before opening conference play on the road with a match against Clemson on Feb. 28 at 5 p.m.
