Laura Ziegler eclipsed 1,000 career rebounds in the win
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 22/21 Louisville women's basketball team (8-3, 1-0 ACC) put together another complete performance in its 94-43 win over New Hampshire (3-7) on Sunday at the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinals limited New Hampshire to just 14 first half points and their bench (47) outscored the Wildcats (43) for the game en route to the victory.
Louisville was led in scoring by Tajianna Roberts and Skylar Jones who each notched 15 points in the contest. Roberts tacked on with five assists and four steals, tying her career-high in thefts. Coming off the bench, Jones packed the stat sheet with seven rebounds, three assists and a steal. With five rebounds in 18 minutes of action, Laura Ziegler notched her 1,000th career rebound in the matchup.Â
The Cards opened the game on a 13-2 run before forcing New Hampshire to burn its first timeout under four minutes into the game. Out of the break, Louisville kept its momentum scoring 12 points while holding the Wildcats to one made field goal for the remainder of the period. The Cards held a 25-4 advantage at the buzzer which marks the fewest points they have allowed in a quarter all season. The defense also dominated the turnover battle 9-0 and used the opportunity to score 17 points off turnovers. Roberts was responsible for 10 of Louisville's points in the first quarter, making four out of five attempted field goals.Â
Louisville carried a 16-0 run into the second quarter, holding New Hampshire scoreless for over eight minutes. After taking their second timeout with 6:38 remaining, the Wildcats broke their scoreless streak with a shot from behind the arc. The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter, but Louisville outpaced New Hampshire overall to take a 48-14 lead into the locker room. This is the fourth time this season that the Cards have held an opponent to under 15 points at the half.Â
The third quarter saw a balanced effort by the Cards with nine different players scoring a bucket. Mackenly Randolph led the pack with seven points on three field goals including one shot from deep. Louisville tallied 33 points in the third, marking the fourth time this season it has scored 30 or more points in a quarter.Â
All 13 of UofL's fourth quarter points were scored by bench players with Yevheniia Putra leading the way with six points. Peyton Bradley tallied five points while Reagan Bender knocked down a layup. Louisville's bench was the standout in the game, outsourcing New Hampshire's bench 47-29. Putra scored a new career high with nine points in 21 minutes of play while Bradley tied her career high in points with eight. Â
Up next, Louisville will close its homestand with Ball State on Wednesday, December 10. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
