Cards Win Governor’s Cup to Conclude Regular Season
November 29, 2025 | Football
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville football team was victorious in the Governor's Cup with a shutout over in-state rival Kentucky, 41-0, on Saturday afternoon at L&N Stadium.
This marks the first shutout of the season for Louisville, and the first since a 56-0 win over Murray State on Sept. 7, 2023. Saturday's effort was the largest margin of victory for the Cards in the Governor's Cup series history and was only the second time they have shutout the Wildcats.
Running back Braxton Jennings became the first walk-on in Louisville history to have a 100-yard rushing game. The freshman totaled 113 yards on 20 attempts, averaging 5.7 yards a carry. He was named the Howard Schnellenberger MVP.
Shaun Boykins Jr. had 101 yards and a touchdown in the contest, marking his first career 100-yard rushing game and the second time in program history where two freshmen had 100-yard rushing games for Louisville
After missing last week's game, Miller Moss was back in at quarterback against the Wildcats. He completed 12-of-20 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for his ninth touchdown of the season.
The Louisville defense held the Wildcats to just 147 yards of total offense, the lowest allowed to an opponent since Austin Peay on Aug. 31, 2024. Kentucky quarterback Cutter Boley completed 13-of-26 passes for 100 yards, his lowest total in a start this season. Tayon Holloway picked off two passes for the first interceptions of his career.
Louisville Head Coach Jeff Brohm said:
"Great day for our football team and our fans. I was really proud of our performance. It's been a rough couple of weeks without question. Losing is not very fun – it's not supposed to be fun. Our guys have handled it well. It's something you've got to work through. They've continued to work hard, and put in the effort, they've had great attitudes. They understand that all these small things matter and if you don't do the small things, you're not going to win. So, to come out here the last game against our rival with quite a few guys down in numbers and step up and just find ways to play hard for 60 minutes in all three segments – offense, defense, special teams – I couldn't be prouder. That's a credit to our players, what they're made of, our coaches, what they're made of, and the fact that it's a great team… It's a great team that just works hard. Yeah, you want to try to win every one, but when you do or don't, you've got to come back and do it again. I just think a lot of guys stepped up, played to the end and gave a great performance in our last regular season game."
