No. 16 Cards to Make First Appearance at Virginia Tech Since Joining ACC
October 27, 2025 | Football
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Looking for it's fourth straight road win, the University of Louisville football team is set to travel to Virginia Tech on Saturday for the first time since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2014.
"We've got another great opportunity this week to go on the road to Virginia Tech, a place we have not played," Head coach Jeff Brohm said. "It will be a great environment for our guys to play in. I know the stadium gets loud and is a good atmosphere so hopefully that will be a great experience for us."
UofL is making its first trip to Blacksburg, Va., since 1991, when the program was an independent. Virginia Tech is the only original school the Cards hadn't visited since joining the league in 2014.
This meeting will mark the third time the two teams have met as members of the ACC, most recently going the Cardinals way with a 34-3 victory in 2023.
Even though the Hokies are 2-3 at home this year, Lane Stadium remains one of the most difficult places to play in college football. A tradition like "Enter Sandman" fosters a hostile environment that requires opposing teams to play at their best.
"During the course of the week we bring in noise, we practice the silent type of cadence we are going to use that week, which sometimes we will carry a couple different ways and you just keep practicing them," Brohm added.
Defensive lineman Wesley Bailey is one of the few Cards who has played in Lane Stadium, where as a part of Rutgers, he traveled to Blacksburg last year. Bailey recorded a sack as the Scarlet Knights narrowly defeated the Hokies, 26-23.
"I played at Virginia Tech last year, and I'll give them credit," Bailey said. "V-Tech's stadium does not compare to Hard Rock [Stadium in Miami]. Blacksburg's stadium, it gets loud in there, especially at 'Enter Sandman', it's insane."
"In terms of preparation, we have our speakers, and we're going to make sure during practice we have the speakers blaring and loud to work on cadence. At the end of the day, it comes with preparation, and we need to try to make sure we prepare for the fans because it's going to be a huge part of this weekend."
Saturday's kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on CW Network.
