Cards Ready to Take on Miami's Defense

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville football team's Friday matchup against No. 2 Miami will provide a stiff test for the Cards as it clashes with the Hurricanes' stacked defense.Â
Heading into their sixth game of the season, the Cards are set to face their biggest competition of the year in Miami, a team that remains undefeated and is playing as well as anyone else in the country.
The Hurricanes size up well on offense, but their strengths remain on the defensive side of the ball.
"Their defensive line is very good," said offensive coordinator Brian Brohm. "They have really good pass rushers. They're just really good up front. They present a challenge for us."
Miami is the top-ranked defense in the conference through week seven. They fall first in the conference in fewest points allowed per game with 13.7, second in rushing yards allowed with 87.4, third in turnovers forced with nine and are second to Louisville in yards allowed per game with 76.4
"It is a good defensive front," said head coach Jeff Brohm. "They are talented, big, strong, and fast. They are not overly complicated, but when you are that talented you do not have to be. This will be a huge test, and we are going to have to help to a certain degree."
The Hurricanes have held their opponents to 22 points or less in all but one of their games. Only two opponents, Notre Dame and Florida State, have put up more than 14 points against them.Â
This poses for an intriguing matchup against the Cards offense who averages 36 points per game this season and has scored at least 27 points in every game so far.Â
"I think the rivalry is continuing on," said Brian Brohm. "We're in the same conference now. It's a big game no matter what every year. You can always count on us two being good programs and being in the race. It's definitely a fun rivalry."
Louisville (4-1) and No. 2 Miami (5-0) will face off on Friday, Oct. 17 at Hard Rock Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 7 pm ET. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.Â
