Onofrei, Steinbach Advance to Doubles Semifinals at ITA Regionals

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The University of Louisville men's tennis tandem of Andre' Steinbach and Matei Onofrei claimed two wins on Sunday, Oct. 12 to earn their spot in the doubles semifinals at ITA Ohio Valley Regionals.Â
No. 9 overall seed Steinbach and Onofrei got the day started with a dominant 8-4 win over the Tennessee State duo of Taj Hibbert and Adler Germinal in the quarterfinal.Â
With less than an hour turnaround, Steinbach and Onofrei switched their attention to No. 8-seeded East Tennessee State duo of Martin Vergara Del Puerto and Oscar Martinez that ended in an 8-6 favor of the Cards.Â
Junior Walid Ahouda made it all the way to the quarterfinals in singles competition, but fell to No. 4 overall seed Pablo Martinez Gomez from Vanderbilt in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.Â
Onofrei and Steinbach will play in the semifinals tomorrow, Oct. 13 at 10 am ET against No. 12 overall seed Jakub Jupa and Cortland Grove from Chattanooga.Â
