Louisville Drops Match to Denver

Louisville falls to 4-2 on the season
COLUMBUS, Ohio – UofL men's tennis dropped its second match of the weekend on Sunday morning, falling 4-1 to Denver in the consolation match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend hosted by Ohio State.
The Cardinals opened the day with a dominant 6-2 doubles win by Russell Lokko and Miguel Avendaño on Court 2. Kosuke Nakanishi and Piet Steveker lost to the Pioneers on Court 3 just before Andre' Steinbach and Enrique Peña won 7-5 on Court 1 to clinch the doubles point for Louisville.
Singles lasted just over two hours and the Cards battled right to the very end. Steveker was the first to surrender a point to Denver on Court 4. Peña fell 6-2, 6-3 on Court 5 to give Denver a 2-1 edge over UofL.
Multiple Cardinals continued to battle in their second and third sets and tiebreaks, but ultimately Steinbach lost his second set tiebreaker 7-5 to fall in his match before Lokko did the same on Court 6, resulting in the Denver victory.
Louisville will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 2 for a doubleheader at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals will start with the Battle of the Bluegrass against the Kentucky Wildcats at noon before facing Belmont at 5 p.m.
