Cards Fall 4-0 to the Buckeyes at ITA Kickoff Weekend

No. 3 Ohio State Hands Louisville Their First Loss of the Year
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Louisville men's tennis team suffered their first loss of the season, falling 4-0 to No. 3 Ohio State at ITA Kickoff weekend.Â
The Buckeyes pair of Brandon Carpico and Will Jansen earned the first win of the day on doubles courts, defeating Kosuke Nakanishi and Piet Steveker 6-0 on Court 3. Ohio State went on to clinch the doubles point after beating the duo of Hamza El Amine and Miguel Avendaño 6-3 on Court 2. Court 1 was left unfinished with the Buckeyes leading 5-2.
Top-ranked Ohio State proved to be too strong for the Cards as the Buckeyes took down Louisville's five, three then one courts to clinch the match. Courts two, four and six were all abandoned.Â
Sophomore Russell Lokko battled on Court 6 the entire match, forcing a tiebreak in set one, but ultimately dropped the set 6-7 (6-8).Â
The Cards will conclude ITA Kickoff Weekend tomorrow with a match against the runner-up of Princeton vs. Denver.Â
