Cards Travel for ITA Kickoff Weekend

Louisville Men's Tennis heads to No.3 Ohio State for two matches
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will begin their first road trip of the season as they head to Columbus, Ohio for the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
Louisville (4-0) will first take on Ohio State at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday. The winner will then advance to play the winner of the Princeton vs. Denver match that is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET later that day. Both the championship match and consolation match will be played on Sunday, Jan. 26 with times yet to be announced.Â
The Cards remain undefeated after a successful doubleheader on Monday, Jan. 20 where they defeated Northwestern 5-2 and Xavier 4-1. Louisville split the doubles point between the two matches, but showed their strength on singles courts with a record of 9-2 on the day.Â
Miguel Avendaño, Will Mayew and Piet Steveker have all begun their season 3-0 in singles competition.Â

Last Meeting: The Buckeyes defeated the Cards 4-0 at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center
Scouting the Buckeyes: The ITA rank Ohio State as the No. 3 team in the country and have a total of four single players in the top 125: Aidan Kim (11), Alexander Bernard (46), William Jansen (64) and Christopher Li (107). The Buckeyes also have four pairs of doubles teams in the latest ITA poll. Ohio State opened up their season with dominant 4-0 wins over Xavier and Toledo. Last season, the Buckeyes went 34-2 and advanced all the way to the NCAA semifinals, falling to TCU 2-4.Â

Scouting the Tigers: ITA has three Princeton players ranked in the latest poll: Paul Inchauspe (19), Top Nidunjianzan (52) and Landon Ardila (105). The Tigers also have three ranked doubles pairs this season. In 2024, Princeton went 22-8 and ended their season with a loss to VCU in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.Â

Series Record: If the Cards and Pioneers face each other, it will be their first time meeting.Â
Scouting the Pioneers: ITA has placed two Pioneers in the top 125: Daniel Sancho Arbizu (24) and Raffaello Papajcik (43). Denver is also undefeated to begin their season after securing wins over UC Davis, Air Force and Montana State. Last season, the Pioneers went 23-1 and defeated Drake 4-0 for the Summit League Championship. Their season came to an end in the first round of the NCAA tournament with a 0-4 loss to No. 22 Michigan State.Â
