Cardinals Tied for Second after First Round of Bettie Lou Evans Invitational

Thienna Huynh leads the Cards in fourth overall with a 1-under 71
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women's golf team got off to a strong start to the 2024-25 season as it is tied for second overall after the first round of the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational. The Cardinals as a team shot a 10-over-par 298 in the first round, held at the Champions Trace Golf Course in Nicholasville. The Cards trail the leading team, TCU, by just three strokes.
Competing in her first tournament with the Cardinals, Thienna Huynh led the team for the day. She finished tied for fourth overall after a 1-under-par 71 in the first round. Coming off her freshman season with the Cards, Millie Cottrell began her second season on the right foot as she is tied for 19th overall after a 3-over-par 75 after the first round.
Carmen Griffiths and Veronika Exposito were both one shot behind Cottrell as they both finished tied for 25th overall after a 4-over-par 76 in the first round. Griffiths begins her senior season with the Cards this season while Exposito is in her first collegiate season. Fellow senior Gabbi Bentancourt tallied a 6-over-par 78 and is tied for 39th overall after the first round.
Freshman Bailey Burkett and Graduate Student Beatriz Barrios competed as individuals for the Cards as well in the first round. Burkett is tied for 32nd overall after shooting a 5-over-par 77 in the first round and Barrios is tied for 46th overall after a 7-over-par 79 in the first round.
