Louisville Gears Up for Critical Test Against Notre Dame in South Bend
September 26, 2024 | Football
LOUISVILLE, KY. The University of Louisville football team is ready for its toughest challenge to date when the No. 15 Cardinals travel to No. 16 Notre Dame to face the Fighting Irish in a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Notre Dame Stadium.
Â
One player looking up to the challenge is quarterback Tyler Shough. Through three games, Shough has thrown for 850 passing yards with 8 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He is currently ranked six in FBS with 197.11 passers rating.Â
Â
Coming off an Atlantic Coast Conference win, Tyler Shough is eager to face tougher opponents and test himself against a higher-level defense.Â
"I think they really do a good job of playing together. I think they are talented at every single position, and there is not really a leakage as far as weakness on any side of the ball or any position. I think they play really hard, and they do a good job of playing together. I think we just have to be really good on our side of the ball as far as executing what we're trying to do, playing physical, playing tough, playing smart, and really just executing our game plan and going out there and having fun"Â
Â
After starting with three home games this season, the Cardinals will face a true road test versus a ranked Notre Dame team.Â
Â
"I'm really excited to go out there and play against a really good team, especially in that kind of environment. I think [when] you go out there and play college football, you dream of playing in those types of games and I think everybody on the team has that same mindset."Â Â
Â
Shough mentioned how Louisville is prepping to play in a historically known hostile environment.Â
Â
"You prepare for these moments, you've been in some crowd noise, you've been through a lot of adversity, and I think it's just another game that you can go out there and really focus on communication. Focus on your keys and go out there and play and understand that it's all extra noise and you can control your play and how you dictate that."Â
Â
Last year, No. 25 Louisville defeated No. 10 Notre Dame 33-20, which was a momentum push in its season leading them into their first ever ACC Championship game appearance. Shough mentions this season they are taking it one game at a time to get back to the ACC Championship.Â
Â
"I think it's important just because it's the next one right ahead of us. It's a really good opponent, and we have to win this game if we want to reach our goals in the future. I guess our total focus is that we know that every single game is going to be a battle, and this one ahead of us is just going to be that so, we've got to be prepared."Â
Â
The Cardinals are looking forward to Sept. 28 as they head to South Bend, Ind. to kick off against Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m. ET.
