Louisville opens up ACC play with 31-19 victory over Georgia Tech
September 21, 2024 | Football
UofL found the endzone first on the defensive end as Ramon Puryear recovered a fumble in the endzone to tie the game 7-7 in the first quarter.
Tayon Holloway blocked a kick late in the fourth quarter that he was able to scoop up and score for a 50-yard touchdown.
Quarterback Tyler Shough continued to impress for Louisville as he threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns on just 19 pass attempts. Shough found eight different pass catchers through the air. Chris Bell and Ja'Corey Brooks were the recipients of Shough's two touchdown passes as they brought in 37- and 57-yard touchdown catches, respectively.
Defensively, Louisville shined in the second half, holding the Yellow Jacket offense to just three points. The Cardinals' defense as a whole was able to record seven tackles for loss, led by senior defensive lineman Tramel Logan, who had two.
Louisville Head Coach Jeff Brohm Said:
""I am definitely proud of our football team today. It was a good team win. It took all four quarters and a lot of different things to pull off the victory. We were definitely tested in a back-and-forth game with a lot momentum swings. We hung in there like we were able to do at some points last year, play to the end, keep our confidence, keep our fight and not give in. We found a way to make more plays. The defense wasn't perfect, but they made some big fourth down stops and, of course, the huge turnover. The special teams gave us the advantage that was the key. A huge, blocked punt for a touchdown really won the game and closed it for us. Then the offense couldn't run the ball really well but made a few plays here and there. It was a tough conference game, and we found a way to win."
