
Meet the 2024 Field Hockey Newcomers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville field hockey team will take the field for its first unofficial competition Friday when the Cardinals play host to Bellarmine in a scrimmage starting at 4 p.m. at Trager Stadium. With a brand new season on deck, nine newcomers, including eight freshmen and one transfer, will be wearing a Louisville jersey for the first time.

Meet the 2024 Louisville Field Hockey Newcomers

Alessia Cicuto
Position: Goalkeeper
Hometown: Raleigh, N.C.
High School: Cary Academy
Club: Carolina All Stars
Cicutto comes to Louisville from Raleigh, N.C. where she was a two-time team captain and Player of the Year while helping Cary Academy to three straight conference titles. The goalkeeper earned a trio of all-state honors (2021-23) and was an all-state honorable mention as a freshman. She also named to the all-conference team in each of her final three seasons. Following her senior year, Cicuto was named to the Max Field Hockey All-Mid-Atlantic Region first team.

With her club, the Carolina All Stars, Cicuto made both the U-16 Indoor and Outdoor National Teams in 2020, as well as the U-19 Indoor and Outdoor National Teams (2021, 2022). She was also named to the Regional Championship Club Team and U-19 JPOL Champions in 2021. Cicuto played in four straight Nexus championships from 2021 to 2024 and was named to Max Preps' Top 50 players list in 2022.

The multi-sport athlete also played basketball and ran track in high school.

Amanda Condon
Position: B/M
Hometown: Camden, New South Wales, Australia
High School: Elderslie
Condon comes to Louisville from Camden, New South Wales, Australia and is a product of Elderslie High School.

The defender/midfielder was recently named to the Metropolitan South West Hockey U18 team to compete 2024 NSW State Championships, marking her fourth straight selection to the squad. In 2023, she helped her team to the Sydney Women's Hockey League title. Condon has collected multiple accolades including the 2023 Olympic Changemaker Award for demonstrating Olympic values on and off the field along with the Sydney South West Senior Blues Award and the South West Sydney Academy of Sport Chairpersons Award.

The multi-sport athlete also competed in cross country and swimming.

Raegan Day
Position: Back
Hometown: Easton Pa.
High School: Easton
Day joins the Cardinals from Easton, Pa., where she helped Easton High School to a runner-up showing in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference in 2021 and 2023 and qualify for the 2022 state championship after a runner-up finish in their district.

The defender was a two-time all-EPC selection (2022, 2023) and was a first team all-state and all-area honoree in 2023. Following her senior season, she was named to the PA Field Hockey Senior Cup roster. As a junior, she was named to the all-area second team and an all-state honorable mention.

Day was selected to play in USA Field Hockey U21 Junior Nexus Championship in 2023 and 2024 and also competed for the Phoenix Performance Academy.

The dual sport athlete was a standout track and field athlete at Easton, winning the district championship in the 400m in 2022 was part of the district and conference champion 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams. She qualified for the state championship in all three events. Â

Emily Eaton
Position: Back
Hometown: Charlotte, NC
High School: Covenant Day School
Eaton comes to Louisville from Charlotte, N.C., where she served as a team captain for Covenant Day School and helped the Lions to a state runner-up showing in 2022. Â

After leading the state with 18 goals on the season, Eaton was tabbed the 2023 North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Player of the Year and Conference Player of the Year as well as the Charlotte Observer's Offensive Player of the Year and Max Field Hockey's North Carolina Player of the Year. The Max Field Hockey third team all-American and Mid Atlantic all-region first team selection was also picked to play in the All-State Senior Game.She finished her high school career as Covenant Day's all-time leading goal scorer and earned a trio of all-state and all-conference honors.

Eaton also served as a captain for her Charlotte Ambush club team, helping the squad to the National Indoor Tournament and earning NFHCA National Player of the Month honors in 2024.

A member of USA Field Hockey's U18 National Team, Eaton was selected for the Junior Olympics and has competed in the Nexus National Championships twice.

Sana Halthore
Position: Midfielder
Hometown: Basking Ridge, NJ
High School: Ridge High School
Halthore joined the Cardinals in the spring of 2024 after attending Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. With many accolades to her name, including first team All-Division, All-County, All-Conference, All North-Jersey first team and All-State Group 4 second team. Halthore graduated from Ridge as one of the school's most decorated athletes after helping the Red Devils to two state sectional titles, three Somerset County titles, and one Skyland Conference title. In her junior season, Ridge peaked at #5 in the state rankings and finished 18-3-2, the best record in the history of the program.

In the first three years of her high school career, Halthore saw a steady increase in goal scoring, and posted a balanced season as a junior with 15 goals and 13 assists. She continued the trend in her senior campaign, one in which she served as team captain and racked up a career-high 18 goals, adding 10 more assists.

Brandelynn Heinbaugh
Position: GK
Hometown: Hummelstown, Pa.
Last School: James Madison University
High School: Lower Dauphin
Heinbaugh will spend her final season of eligibility at Louisville after four years at James Madison University. In her four seasons there, the goalkeeper carried a 2.06 career goals-against average with five shutouts while collecting 18 wins and 143 saves.

As a junior, she posted a 1.72 goals against average, standing at No. 36 in the NCAA and earned eight wins with shutouts against No. 16 Williams & Mary and No. 12 Wake Forest. The 2020-21 all-Colonial Athletic Association second team honoree played a crucial role in the Dukes' regular season league title with a shutout performance against Northeastern. She went on to earn CAA All-Rookie Team honors.

The health sciences major was a JMU Athletics Director's Scholar Athlete in each of her semesters and was a National Field Hockey Coaches Association Scholar of Distinction and National Academic Squad member in 2020-21. Â

Trijntje Herfkens

Hometown: Bussum, The Netherlands
High School: Goois Lyceum
Herfkens makes the journey to Louisville from Bussum, The Netherlands where she was selected for the U16 National team and played for the U18 squad.

In her prep career, played for Hockey Club Naarden helping her team to the 2024 indoor title and the subtopklasse championships in 2022 and 2023. She was also selected for the Noord-Holland District Talent Team.

Megan Mauzy
Position: Back
Hometown: Louisville, KYÂ
High School: Christian Academy of LouisvilleÂ
Mauzy elected to play for her hometown Cardinals after helping Christian Academy of Louisville capture the 2023 Kentucky State title and was named to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association's (KHSAA) all-tournament team. As a senior, the team captain was tabbed as one of Max Field Hockey's Top 40 West/Midwest Players to Watch and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association High School Players Watch List. Following the season, she was named to the Max Field Hockey West/Midwest All-Region first team.

The defender earned a pair of all-state nods (2022, 2023) and stood ninth in the state in goals as a senior. In 2023, Mauzy was recognized on the Senior All-State Team and as a nominee for both Miss Kentucky Field Hockey and Defensive Player of the Year.

In the USA Field Hockey system, she was invited to the U21 Junior Women's National Selection Camp and the 2019 Nexus Championship.

The 2023 Kentucky Student Athlete of the Year also played lacrosse in high school.

Mary Wordelmann
Position: Forward
Hometown: Mickleton, NJ
High School: Kingsway Regional High School
Wordelmann comes to Louisville from Mickleton, N.J. where she helped Kingsway Regional to the 2022 state championship and a pair of Group IV sectional titles. Max Field Hockey ranked Kingsway Regional No. 1 in New Jersey and fifth nationally in 2023.

Following the 2023 season, the forward was named to the Max Field Hockey All-America first team and New Jersey all-region first team. As a junior, she was named to all-state third team along with earning first team all-Group IV, and first team all-South Jersey honors. She was also a first team all-conference honoree in both her junior and senior campaigns. While at Kingsway, Wordelmann tallied 23 goals and 41 assists while helping the Dragons to a 69-7-1 record finishing as Tri-County Conference Royal Division Champions each year.Â

With her club team, Spirit of USA, Wordelmann won U16 JPOL New Jersey MVP and Top Goal Scorer honors in 2022. Â She was selected to play in USA Field Hockey U21 Junior Nexus Championship.
