Fifth-year senior Aimee Plumb named to preseason all-ACC team; Cards tied for fourth in preseason coaches’ poll
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Louisville's Aimee Plumb was named to the 2024 Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference team as voted on by the league's head coaches. The Cardinals were picked to finish in a tie for fourth in the preseason poll.
Â
This marks the second straight preseason all-ACC honor for Plumb, who is returning to Louisville for her fifth year of eligibility. The midfielder from Canterbury Kent, England has stood among the Cardinals' offensive leaders throughout her career. Last year, she led UofL with 18 points, tallied a team-best eight assists and tied for the team lead with five goals. Plumb is a two-time National Field Hockey Coaches All-America and all-ACC selection and a four-time NFHCA All-West Region honoree.
Â
Virginia was tabbed to win the regular season title with 76 points and four first place votes, edging out defending national champion North Carolina which followed closely with four first place nods and 75 points. Duke (63 points, 1 first place vote) rounded out the top three while Louisville and Syracuse were tied for fourth with 46 points apiece. Boston College (40) and Wake Forest (29) stand sixth and seventh respectively while California and Stanford are tied for eighth with 15 points each in the preseason conference standings.
Â
In 2023, the UofL field hockey team posted a 15-7 overall record and made its fifth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, reaching the quarterfinals for the third time in the last five years. Louisville also went 3-3 in ACC play and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament. The Cards finished the season at No. 10 in the NFHCA Coaches' poll after spending 10 weeks ranked among the nation's the top 10, reaching as high as No. 4.
Â
The Cardinals return 16 letterwinners from last year's squad including Plumb and fellow fifth-year senior All-America selection Mia Duchars. Louisville also welcomes nine newcomers with eight freshmen and one transfer.
