Loktev Finals in Relay, Petrashov and Barna Swim In Semifinal at Paris Olympics

PARIS -- The Cardinals were back in the water for the evening session of swimming in the semifinals at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games Tuesday evening  at the Paris La Defense Arena.

Israeli Denis Loktev led off the 4x200 relay with a split of 1:48.16 as Israel finished ninth in the finals with a time of 7:10.22. Great Britain was the only foursome to go sub 7 minutes with the gold medal time of 6:59.43.

 In the 100M freestyle semifinals, Cardinal sprinter Andrej Barna boarded a 48.11 for Serbia to finish 14th overall. China's Zhanie Pan enters the finals as the favorite after going 47.21.  Barna, a 17-time All-American for the Cards, did not advance to the finals. Â

Denis Petrashov was seventh in the 200M breaststroke in his semifinal heat, posting a 2:10.19. Petrashov wFrance's Leon Marchand, who swims collegiately for Arizona State, boarded a 2:08.11 to lead the field in tomorrow's finals.

Next up for the Cardinals is signee Daria Golovaty of Israel, who will swim in the 4x200 free relay on Aug. 1.
