Ulrich Finishes as National Runner-Up in Discus to Conclude NCAA Outdoor Championships
June 08, 2024 | Track & Field
After also placing fourth in the shot put on Thursday evening, the junior becomes the first female in program history to finish in the top-five in multiple individual events at the same NCAA meet.
EUGENE, Ore. – Jayden Ulrich finished as the national runner-up in the women's discus throw as the University of Louisville women's track & field team closed out the final day of action at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The junior posted a mark of 63.05m (206-10) to claim the silver medal and earn the highest finish in the event by a Louisville athlete in school history. The performance caps off an incredible first season in a Louisville uniform for Ulrich that saw her eclipse the 60-meter mark in the discus at six meets on the year while setting a new school record of 64.29m in April that ranks her among the top ten in collegiate history.
After also placing fourth in the shot put on Thursday evening, Ulrich becomes the first female in program history to finish in the top-five in multiple individual events at the same national championship meet.
The native of East Alton, Ill. also becomes the first Cardinal to earn First Team All-American in multiple individual events at the same national meet since 2010 and only the third to do so in school history.
In the women's high jump, Soledad Jean made her first career appearance at the NCAA Championships, placing 23rd with a final bar of 1.72m (5-7.75).
Keyed by Ulrich's top-four finishes in the shot put and discus, the Louisville women finished 22nd in the team standings with 13 points, the highest finish and point total at the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the women's squad in program history.
