LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Six University of Louisville track & field student athletes are set to compete in the 2024 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships from June 5-8 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
The Cardinals will be represented by Jake Burkey, Soledad Jean, Ian Kibiwot, Natalie Lark, Brion Stephens, and Jayden Ulrich who will combine to compete in seven different individual events.
Wednesday's events for the Cards will begin at 9:00 p.m. ET with the onset of the men's long jump to kick off the four days of competition. The competition schedule for Louisville athletes can be found below, while the full schedule of events can be found here.
The duration of the meet will be streamed live on the ESPN family of networks, with the first three days of competition being broadcast on ESPN2 before the final day of events shifts to ESPN. Each stream's start times will coincide with the beginning of the day's action on the track. Links to each day's live stream can be found below.
Each event will feature 24 student-athletes, 12 from the East Region and 12 from the West Region, that punched their tickets to the national championships two weeks ago at the NCAA regional preliminaries.
The top eight finishers in each event in Eugene will be recognized as First Team All-Americans, with those that finish 9-16 being named Second Team All-Americans and those that finish 17-24 earning Honorable Mention All-American distinction.
Burkey will return to the national championship meet in the men's long jump for the second straight year after qualifying for the outdoor championships last season while competing for New Mexico. His wind-aided mark of 7.83m (25-8.25) at the Clark Wood Invitational enters the week as the 13th-best leap in the field thus far this season.
In the women's high jump, Jean will compete at the national meet for the first time in her career after setting a new personal-best mark of 1.84m (6-0.5) at the NCAA East Regionals to become only the third Louisville female to clear six feet in the high jump and seed her in a tie for 15th among those set to contest the event at the national championships.
Kibiwot is set to make his first career appearance at the NCAA Championships after qualifying for the men's 10000m with a fourth-place finish in the event at the NCAA East Regionals. His program-record time of 28:26.67 at the Stanford Invitational in late March stands 15th among participants slated to compete at Hayward Field.
Lark will also make her championship debut this week in the women's pole vault, coming into the competition with a personal-best mark of 4.27m (14-0) that earned her a runner-up finish at the ACC Outdoor Championships and seeds her 22nd in the national championship field.
Stephens, a two-time NCAA indoor All-American, will make his first appearance at the outdoor championship meet in the men's high jump. The sophomore's personal-best mark of 2.23m (7-3.75) from the Texas Relays comes into the meet tied for fourth in the field after a campaign in which he finished as the ACC runner-up for the second consecutive season.
Ulrich will make her third appearance at the national outdoor meet in her career and first appearance in a Louisville uniform after becoming the first student-athlete in program history to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in multiple individual events since 2019, having clinched a spot in Eugene in both the women's shot put and women's discus throw.
After an outdoor season in which she won two ACC titles and set a pair of program records, the junior enters the national competition seeded second in the nation in the discus with a mark of 64.29m (210-11) set at the Pacific Coast Invitational in mid-April. Ulrich is also seeded fourth in the shot put with a mark of 18.66m (61-2.75) that she recorded two weeks ago on her first and only throw of the competition at the NCAA East Regionals.
