
KJ Byrd Wins USATF U20 Decathlon Title

The Louisville signee will compete at the World Athletics U20 World Championships in Lima, Peru at the end of August.
EUGENE, Ore. – University of Louisville men's track & field signee KJ Byrd won the USATF 20 national championship in the decathlon on Thursday evening at Hayward Field.
With the victory, Byrd clinches a spot on the national team for the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships, which will take place from Aug. 27-31 in Lima, Peru.
The native of Connelly Springs, N.C., accrued a total of 7,536 points to win the national title, while finishing in the top-five among the 12 competitors in seven of the ten events.
Byrd led the field in Eugene in four events while clocking a time of 14.16 in the 110m hurdles, posting a clearance of 2.02m (6-7.5) in the high jump, leaping to a mark of 7.16m (23-6) in the long jump, and clearing a final bar of 5.20m (17-0.75) in the pole vault.
Over the course of his senior season, Byrd also won the pentathlon at the 2024 adidas Track Nationals and captured a trio of North Carolina 2A state titles (indoor high jump, outdoor 110m hurdles, and outdoor long jump) while competing for East Burke High School.
