LOUISVILLE – The 8-seeded University of Louisville men's golf team is set to tee off in round one of NCAA Regionals at University Club as it welcomes 13 other teams and 5 individuals to Baton Rouge.
The challenging 18-hole, par-72 course at University Club plays to 7,401 yards from its championship tees and features wide fairways bordered by pine hammocks and native grasses, in addition to 2,000 feet of beautiful bulkhead. The golf course was redesigned in 2010 by LSU legend David Toms and its original architect, Jim Lipe. The difficult track is carved into nearly 300 acres of Louisiana's natural wetlands and just seven miles South of the LSU campus.
UofL is making its sixth consecutive regional appearance and the 14th overall trip in school history. Last season, Louisville was the No. 5 seed in the Morgan Hill Regional in San Jose, Calif., where they finished in a tie for eighth place.
The Cardinals, who are making their ninth post-season appearance in the last 11 years, earned a bid after picking up six top-five finishes, including a win at the General Hackler Championship.
Max Kennedy, who was recently selected to the International Arnold Palmer Cup Team, has been the team's most consistent performer all season, posting four finishes in the top 10, including a win at the General Hackler Championship, where he carded a score of eight-under-par. He owns a 72.25 stroke average, which is second on the team, and has recorded 14 rounds of even-par or better this year.
Sebastian Moss, who was named All-ACC, has emerged this year with a team best 71.75 average and became the first player in school history to win back-to-back tournaments when he won the Bearcat and Rod Myers Invitational earlier this fall with combined scores of 23-under-par.
In his first season with the Cardinals, Cooper Claycomb has totaled four top-15 finishes, with the career best third at the General Hackler Championship after shooting 6-under-par. Easton Johnson and Patrick Keeling will be competing at the regional.
The LSU Regional features five of the nation's top 25 teams, including Auburn, the No. 1 ranked team in the nation. Virginia, one of two Atlantic Coast Conference foes in the region, is ranked No. 12, while Texas Tech is No. 14, Oregon is No. 24 and Duke, the other ACC competitor, comes in at No. 25. Louisville enters regional action as the No. 48 team in the country.
Fans are encouraged to come out to the University Club over the next three days as world class golf will be on display and admission to the tournament is free.
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals (not on those qualifying teams) who will compete in the finals. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the finals. The 2024 national championships will be hosted by the University of Texas at Austin and held at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa on May 24-28 in Carlsbad, Calif.
Golfers will tee of on holes No. 1 and No. 10 starting as early as 8:00 a.m. each day. Groups, pairings, and live scoring is available at Golfstat.com and fans can follow along on all social media platforms @LouisvilleMGolf. Louisville is paired with host LSU and Houston, which will tee off at 9:56 a.m. EST.
