April 30, 2024 | Track & Field
The rookie tied the Louisville freshman record in the women’s pole vault over the weekend at the Clark Wood Invitational.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Louisville track & field freshman Iliana Triantafyllou has been named the ACC Women's Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
The native of Serres, Greece cleared a final bar of 4.18m (13-8.5) in the women's pole vault at the Clark Wood Invitational, tying the Louisville freshman record set in 2018 by Gabriela Leon, who won the 2022 NCAA championship in the same event.
The personal-best clearance moves the freshman up to sixth in the ACC in the event, while also tying for the 20th-best mark in the East Region and inside the top 50 marks nationally.
This is the first ACC weekly honor for Triantafyllou, who joined the team in January, and the first for the Cardinals since Jayden Ulrich was named ACC Women's Field Athlete of the Week on Apr. 16.
The Cards will send a select group of student athletes to Indiana's Billy Hayes Invitational on May 3 before traveling to Atlanta, Ga. for the ACC Outdoor Championships from May 9-11.
