Cards Win Eight Events on Saturday to Close Clark Wood Invitational

Jayden Ulrich set a new facility and meet record in the women’s shot put, and Iliana Triantafyllou tied the freshman record in the women’s pole vault.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track & field teams racked up eight event victories while making numerous amendments to the program record books on Saturday afternoon to conclude the Clark Wood Invitational.
After shattering her own school record in the women's shot put yesterday, Jayden Ulrich claimed the top spot in the women's discus throw with a toss of 60.43m (198-3) on her way to setting her second facility and meet record of the weekend.
Iliana Triantafyllou made her own mark on the record books in the seeded section of the women's pole vault, tying 2022 NCAA champion Gabriela Leon's freshman record in the event with a mark of 4.18m (13-8.5). In the women's unseeded vault, Paris Bond picked up the win with a personal-best clearance of 4.07m (13-4.25), while Lydia Stuart set an outdoor-best with a mark of 3.92m (12-10.25) to tie for second place.
The women's 1500m saw Alessandra Rodriguez win her second event of the weekend while clocking a new personal-best time of 4:25.64 to move to seventh in program history after also winning the women's 800m with a personal record on Friday. Sydney Partyka followed close behind with a season-best time of 4:29.95 to place third in the 1500m.
The Cards accounted for five of the top six spots in the women's triple jump with Alba Cuns Iglesias leading the way with a personal-best mark of 12.79m (41-11.5) that pushed the sophomore among the top-three triple jumpers in school history. Rachel Darden placed third with a mark of 12.57m while Sophia Day (4th – 12.45m), Autumn Bell (5th – 12.40), and Riley Burger (6th – 12.35m) rounded out the top six finishers.
In the men's triple jump, Grigoris Nikolaou posted the top mark in the competition at 15.44m (50-8) and Will Ross finished as the runner-up with a leap of 14.80m (48-6.75).
The Cards found success on the javelin runway as well as Gianna Rotelli earned her first collegiate victory in the women's javelin throw with a mark of 42.28m (138-8), moving the freshman into the top five in the event in Louisville history. On the men's side, Ryan Drwal jumped all the way up to second in the program record books, finishing as the runner-up with a final mark of 58.54m (192-0).
Louisville athletes won both seeded sections of the high jump with Soledad Jean claiming the women's crown with a mark of 1.76m (5-9.25) and Brion Stephens winning the men's competition with a clearance of 2.15m (7-0.5). Trey Allen finished as the runner-up on the men's side after posting a final bar of 2.10m (6-10.75).
After finishing seventh in the preliminary round of the women's 100m, Olivia Jenkins blazed to a massive personal-best time of 11.62 in the finals to take third overall and move into a tie for sixth in school history.
McKenzie Bell posted a personal-best for a third-place finish of her own in the women's 400m, cruising around the oval in a time of 54.58.
The Cards also dominated the invitational section of the men's long jump with numerous regional-qualifying marks, led by Jake Burkey's mark of 7.83m (25-8.25), which was good for third place in the competition. Jeremiah Willis placed fifth with a mark of 7.71m (25-3.5), while Roman Kuleshov finished sixth (7.62m) and Trae Burns notched a seventh-place finish (7.53m).
Rhune Vanroose rounded out the top five individuals in the women's 3000m steeplechase, powering to a time of 11:00.99 to close the weekend out on the track for Louisville.
Over the course of the two-day event at Cardinal Park, the Cards tallied ten event victories, 29 top-five individual finishes, and saw a total of 23 personal-best performances.
The Cardinals will officially wrap up competition in the month of April tomorrow evening, when senior Rylee Penn takes part in the women's 1500m at the Virginia High Performance in Charlottesville, Va. at 7:40 p.m.
