Men’s tennis drops only three total sets
WEYMOUTH, Mass. – In its regular season finale, UofL men's tennis pulled off a 6-1 victory at Boston College on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals only dropped three total sets in their 14th win of the season.
"It's great to be back in the win column again," said head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "Now hopefully, we will take some of this momentum into the ACC Tournament this week."
The morning opened with a 6-3 win by Miguel Avendaño and Matthew Fung on Court 2. The Cards then lost on Court 1 before bouncing back and coming up victorious on Court 3. Etienne Donnet and Kosuke Nakanishi teamed up for their fifth win of the season at 6-4, clinching the doubles point for UofL.
Fung moved up to the No. 2 spot in the lineup in singles and won in dominant fashion, 6-2, 6-1 to pick up Louisville's second point of the day.
The domination continued as freshman Piet Steveker was tagged back into the lineup after only playing in singles once since March 3. He won big 6-1, 6-1 on Court 6 to give more to the Cardinals' lead.
Avendaño had the clinching point for Louisville on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-3 victory on Court 5. Donnet extended the lead to 5-0 with a straight set victory on Court 1.
Sophomore Will Mayew dropped a point to the Eagles, falling in three sets. Nakanishi wrapped it up for the day with a 7-6, 6-3 win on Court 4.
Louisville (14-13, 3-9 ACC) will now await its officially seeding in the ACC Tournament that begins on Wednesday. The Cardinals are expected to be the 10-seed – in that instance, UofL would play the 7-seed at 12:30 p.m. ET on Thursday afternoon.
