Claycomb Shoots 1-Under-Par 71 on Saturday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Cooper Claycomb fired a under-par to lead the University of Louisville men's golf team to fifth after the first round of the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational on Saturday at the Sawgrass Country Club on Saturday.
Collectively, the Cardinals are in fifth place after carding a seven-over-par 295 to sit 10 shots off the lead. Alabama leads the way at 6-under-par, while Ohio State is the only other team under par at 2-under-par after 18 holes.
Claycomb enters the second round in a tie for eighth place after his round of 71, sitting just two shots off the lead. The freshman from Orlando, Fla., would record birdies on four holes on the front nine. He would register birdies on holes 4-6 and the last one on No. 8 to secure a to-10 standing leading into Sunday.
Easton Johnson was the second-highest finisher for the Cards with a 2-over-par 74. The native of Kansas City, Mo., recorded three birdies but fell victim to a bogey and a pair of double bogeys.
Two of the team's top performer this season, Sebastian Moss and Max Kennedy are tied for 35th after shooting a 3-over-par 75. Clay Pendergrass and Mads Roddik, who is playing as an individual, are tied for 41st after shooting a 4-over-par 76.
