
Cards Two Shots Off the Lead at the General Hackler Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The University of Louisville men's golf team shot a 2-over-par 290 to move up into second place after the second round of The General James Hackler Championship played at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club Tuesday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Cards enter the third-round with an even-par 576 (286-290).
Coastal Carolina made a solid run on the back nine that vaulted the Chants to the top of the leaderboard. After making the turn with a team total of two-over 146, CCU had 13 birdies with only three bogeys to shoot a 134 over the final nine holes that moved CCU into the lead.
Chattanooga is sixth (+7, 583), followed by Liberty (+8, 584), San Francisco (+9, 585), and North Florida (+12, 588). Kent State and Little Rock are tied for 10th at 14-over 590.
The rest of the field includes UNCW (+16, 592), Western Carolina (+38, 614), and Charleston Southern (+45, 621).
Leading the Cards to just two shots off the lead were senior Max Kennedy and Cooper Claycomb, who are both in the top five heading into Wednesday's final round of action.
Kennedy shot a 1-under-par 71 on Tuesday to sit just two shots behind Clark Akers of Furman, who leads the way at 7-under-under-par. Kennedy is at 5-under-par after shooting 68-71=139. The native of Dublin, Ireland bogeyed the first hole, but responded with two birdies and 15 pars to put together a steady round,
Claycomb is tied for fifth after his round of 71 on Tuesday. He opened play with a 2-under-par 70 on Monday to enter the final day just four shots off the lead. The freshman recorded four birdies and three bogeys.
Sebastian Moss and Easton Johnson are tied for 33rd after Moss shot 73 and Johnson finished with a 75. Moss would birdie No. 5 and recorded an eagle on No. 8. Clay Pendergrass is tied for 44th after playing two rounds at 3-over-par 75.
Playing as an individual, Patrick Keeling is tied for 54th after shooting 77 on Tuesday.
The Cards will tee off on No. 1 with Coastal Carolina and East Tennessee at 9:30 a.m.
