Cards Hit Road for Wednesday Trip to Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Louisville men's basketball looks to continue its momentum on the road at Syracuse at 7 p.m. ET Wednesday in Syracuse, N.Y. The game will air on ACC Network.

The Cardinals are coming off a 101-92 home win over Florida State on Saturday, in which three players set new career highs in scoring. Syracuse is coming off back-to-back losses at Boston College (80-75) and at Wake Forest (99-70).

Louisville leads the all-time series 19-12, but trails 4-7 on the road. The Orange have won four of the last five, including a 70-69 victory last year in Louisville.

• In Saturday's win over Florida State, Louisville had four players score at least 18 points for the first time since Feb. 1, 1989, against Virginia Tech. Brandon Huntley-Hatfield (29 points) and Ty-Laur Johnson (27) became the first Cardinals to both score at least 27 in the same game since Larry O'Bannon and Taquan Dean did it against Charlotte in 2005.

• Freshman guard Ty-Laur Johnson was named ACC Rookie of the Week on Monday after posting career highs with 27 points, 11 assists and six rebounds against Florida State. He's the first Cardinal to have at least 20 points, 10 assists and five rebounds in a game in program history, and he's the only player in the country to achieve his stats against a Division I opponent this year – as well as just the fourth player in the last eight seasons to do so against a Power 5 foe. His 27 points were also the most by an ACC freshman this season.

• UofL is one of two teams in the nation, along with New Mexico, with five different players who have scored at least 26 points in a game this season – Huntley-Hatfield (29), Tre White (29), Skyy Clark (29), Johnson (27) and Mike James (26).

• Louisville has used nine different starting lineups and is 4-5 when using a new starting lineup. The Cardinals have started 12 different players this season among an initial roster of 15 players.

• Over the last 13 games, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield is averaging 14.9 points and 8.4 rebounds while shooting 60.5% from the field (75 of 124). After registering two double-doubles in the first 68 games of his career, he has five in his last 13 games.

Louisville men's basketball suffered its fourth one-point loss of the season, dropping a 70-69 heartbreaker to Syracuse at the KFC Yum! Center.

The Cardinals led 35-34 at halftime and for the last time at 67-66 with 1:04 to play, but the Orange scored the game's final four points from the free-throw line.

Louisville got 20 points, nine assists, four rebounds and three steals from senior guard El Ellis, as well as a career-high 19 points from redshirt freshman guard/forward Mike James, including four 3-pointers.

The Cardinals tied their season high with 17 assists and set new season highs with 15 offensive rebounds and 19 second-chance points, but it was offset by 21 UofL turnovers that became 25 Syracuse points.

The Orange also benefited from a 28-point performance by Joseph Girard III, including two crucial 3s in the final five minutes and the last two free throws of the game.
