No. 72 Will Mayew goes 3-0 on the weekend
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UofL men's tennis sophomore captain No. 72 Will Mayew went 3-0 on the weekend and was named ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Mayew teamed up with Matthew Fung on the doubles court against Indiana, defeating the Hoosier tandem 6-4 to kick off the doubleheader.
He then transitioned into the four-spot in singles and handily defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-1.
The Cary, N.C., native moved up in Louisville's second match and played at No. 2 in singles. Once again, he dominated his opponent in straight sets, winning 6-0, 6-4.
Mayew leads the Cardinals in wins so far this season with a 9-1 record on the year. He's on a four-match winning streak in singles and a two-match winning streak in doubles.
It's the Cardinals' third weekly award so far this season. They've now won an award in each category as Miguel Avendaño was named Freshman of the Week on January 23 and Natan Rodrigues and Etienne Donnet won Doubles Team of the Week on February 13.
Louisville is now No. 27 in the new ITA team rankings. The Cards open up ACC play with No. 17 Florida State on Friday night at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
