Cards Fall to No. 9 Virginia on Sunday Afternoon

Berta Miret picks up lone victory for the Cardinals
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's tennis team (4-5, 0-2 ACC) fell 6-1 to No.9 Virginia (10-2, 3-0 ACC) Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The Cardinals kicked off Sunday's matchup against sixth-ranked Virginia with doubles play where the Cavaliers jumped to an early 1-0 lead.
The Cavs doubles duo of Elaine Chervinsky and Meggie Navarro defeated Ibifuro Clement and Berta Miret at the three-spot 6-0. The Cards duo of Jamilah Snells and Lillian Mould fell on Court 1 to No. 17 Natasha Subhash and Hibah Shaikh 6-1.
The Cards looked to bounce back in singles play but it was Virginia who got the leg up early as No. 65 Chervinsky defeated Allie Gretkowski 6-0, 6-1 on Court 5.
On Court 2, Mould fell to No. 113 Annabelle Xu 6-4, 6-1 which gave the Cavs a decisive 3-0 lead. No. 72 Sara Ziodato clinched the match for the Cavs by defeating Germany Davis 6-4, 6-1 at the four-spot.
The Cards got on the board for the first time on the afternoon after Berta Miret downed Blanca Pico Navarro in straight 6-4, 6-1.
On Court 1 Snells fell to No. 20 Shaikh 6-3, 7-5. The match concluded on Court 3 with Subhash defeating Lika Peresypkina 5-7, 6-1, and (11-9). The match was decided by a 10-point tiebreak due to time constraints.
The Cardinals now shift their focus to their first ACC road matchup of the year where they'll travel to Winston-Salem, NC to face No.57 Wake Forest on Friday, March 1st at 5 pm ET.
