No. 20 Cardinals Open Homestand with Virginia
February 24, 2024 | Women's Basketball
Two of the final three games of the regular season will be at home
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 20 Louisville women's basketball team is back home as it begins the final homestand of the regular season. The Cardinals are set to take on the Virginia Cavaliers this weekend from the KFC Yum! Center. Sunday's game will be National Girls and Women in Sports Day and Girl Scouts Day. The Cardinals and Cavaliers will square off at 12 p.m. ET and it will be aired nationally on The CW.
The Cardinals are coming off an 80-62 road win over Georgia Tech on Thursday. Sydney Taylor put together her best game in a Louisville uniform when she poured in 31 points on 10-for-16 shooting, tied a career high with seven made threes, four rebounds, four assists and tied a career high with four steals. She is the only player this season to have at least 30 points, seven made threes, four rebounds, four assists and four steals in a single game this season. She is the only player with this stat line in a game since the 2020-21 season.
The 31 points are the most by a Louisville player in a game this season. It is the first time since the 2021-22 season that a Louisville player has scored 30 or more points in a game. The seven three pointers were the most by a Louisville player since Dana Evans hit three against Boston College on Jan. 16, 2020. Taylor was one point shy of her career high of 32 points that she set while at UMass against VCU in 2022.
With the win over Georgia Tech, Louisville improved to 6-0 this season following a loss. Since Jeff Walz took over in 2007, Louisville is 91-24 following a loss. The Cardinals are even better coming off a loss against ACC opponents. Over the past 10 seasons, Louisville is 25-3 following a loss against an ACC opponent. They have only lost back-to-back ACC games three times over the past 10 seasons.
