Cards register a season-high 13 hits in 6-2 win at Coastal Carolina
CONWAY, S.C. – The University of Louisville softball team used a season-high 13 hits to beat host Coastal Carolina 6-2 Saturday evening at St. John Park on day one of the Battle at the Beach.
After falling 13-8 to Furman in the first game of the day, the Cardinals bounced back with a win over the Chanticleers in the nightcap.

Louisville (11-2) will wrap up the tournament against Bowling Green Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

Riley Frizell went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI to help lead the Cardinals at the plate. Bailee Richardson and Kiley Goff each had a pair of hits and scored a run while Vanessa Miller delivered a two-run homer to bolster Louisville's offense.

The teams played through two scoreless innings before the Cardinals broke through with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Katie Thatcher got the frame started with her first collegiate hit, proceeded to steal second and took third on Ally Alexander's ground out. Paige Geraghty laced a single through the right side to send Thatcher home. One out later, Frizell singled Geraghty home to give Louisville a 2-0 lead.

Louisville capitalized on five hits to its lead to 6-0 in the top of the seventh which was highlighted by Miller's two-run homer. With two outs in the inning, Frizell beat the Coastal shortstop's throw for an infield single. Miller then stepped up to the plate and crushed a shot over the fence in right centerfield for her third home run of the season. Richardson singled, Goff was hit by a pitch and Gabby Holloway delivered a hit to load the bases for freshman Ava Venturelli who connected on a two-run single for her first collegiate hit.

Coastal Carolina (5-5) used four hits to break through with two runs in the seventh inning.

Alyssa Zabala (5-1) picked up the win, surrendering two earned runs on seven hits and striking out eight in a complete game effort.

Nicolette Picone (1-3) took the loss, allowing six earned runs on 13 hits and striking out three in 6.2 innings of work.
