Louisville will face nine teams in the top 20 and seven top-10 opponents this season
The University of Louisville stands at No. 9 in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Preseason poll released on Aug. 22.

The Cardinals will face nine teams ranked among the preseason top 20 and seven top 10 teams including No. 1 North Carolina, No. 2 Northwestern, No. 6 Virginia, No. 7 Iowa, No. 8 Syracuse and No. 10 Princeton. View the complete Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Preseason Coaches' Poll here.

The Cards will open the season on Friday when they play host to Northeastern at 5 p.m. and wrap up the first weekend of play at second-ranked Northwestern.

Louisville Field Hockey Notes
• UofL has now spent 107 consecutive weeks in the top 20 in the nation dating back to the 2013 season.
• Julie Kouijzer and Aimee Plumb were named to the 2023 Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference team as voted on by the league's head coaches. The Cardinals were also picked to finish fourth in the regular season.
• In 2022, Louisville registered a 12-8 overall record and earned its fourth-straight NCAA tournament bid.
• The Cardinals were ranked No. 12 in the final NFHCA Coaches Poll after spending the entire season in the top 15 and reaching as high as No. 4 in the 2022 campaign.
• Louisville returns 17 letterwinners from last year's team and welcome 10 newcomers including eight freshmen and two graduate transfers.
• Justine Sowry is entering her 13th season as head coach. She has guided the Cardinals to three conference titles, a pair of runner-up finishes in the ACC tournament and eight NCAA tournament appearances, advancing to the semifinals for the first time in program history in 2020.
