
Kouijzer, Plumb Earn Preseason All-ACC Field Hockey Honors

Julie Kouijzer and Aimee Plumb were named to the Preseason All-ACC Field Hockey Team
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Louisville's Julie Kouijzer and Aimee Plumb were named to the 2023 Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference team as voted on by the league's head coaches. The Cardinals were also picked to finish fourth in the regular season.

Defending NCAA champion North Carolina was picked to win the title with 45 votes. Virginia followed closely with 42 with Syracuse (32) and Louisville (24) rounding out the top four. Boston College (22), Wake Forest (17) and Duke (14) complete the preseason standings.

Kouijzer, a fifth-year senior from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America second team after registering a career-best six goals while helping the Cardinals defense produce five shutouts on the season. Kouijzer garnered All-America third team honors in 2021.
• The defender is a three-time NFHCA All-West Region selection (2020, 2021 and 2022), a two-time All-ACC honoree and was twice named to the ACC All-Tournament Team (2019, 2020).

Plumb, a senior from Canterbury, Kent, England notched her second straight NFHCA All-America third team nod in 2022 after leading Louisville in scoring with a career-best eight goals, seven assists and 23 points. Five of her eight goals stood as game winners, ranking third in the ACC in that category. Â Plumb is also a two-time NFHCA All-West Region and All-ACC selection and was named to the 2022 NFHCA Preseason Watch List.
The Cardinals will open the season on Friday when they play host to Northeastern at 5 p.m.

• In 2022, Louisville registered a 12-8 overall record and earned its fourth-straight NCAA tournament bid.
• The Cardinals were ranked No. 12 in the final NFHCA Coaches Poll after spending the entire season in the top 15 and reaching as high as No. 4 in the 2022 campaign.
• Louisville returns 17 letterwinners from last year's team and welcome 10 newcomers including eight freshmen and two graduate transfers.
• Justine Sowry is entering her 13th season as head coach. She has guided the Cardinals to three conference titles, a pair of runner-up finishes in the ACC tournament and eight NCAA tournament appearances, advancing to the semifinals for the first time in program history in 2020.
