
Cardinals Well-Represented at USATF Outdoor Championships

Trey Allen, Gabriela Leon, Cameron Miller, Brion Stephens, and Sterling Warner-Savage will compete on the national stage this weekend.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Five current or former members of the University of Louisville track and field program have been selected to compete on the national stage for USA Track & Field in Eugene, Ore. at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field from Jul. 6-9.
Trey Allen, Gabriela Leon, Cameron Miller, and Sterling Warner-Savage are set to compete in the 2023 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships, while Brion Stephens will represent Louisville in the U20 Outdoor Championships that will also take place this weekend in Eugene.
The national meet will serve as the qualifying event for the 2023 World Athletics Outdoor Championships that will be contested later this summer from Aug. 19-27 in Budapest, Hungary.

Allen will lead the charge for the Cardinals following a season that saw tie for fourth in the men's high jump at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships and tie for third in the same event at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships to earn a pair of first team All-American honors. The Birmingham, Ala. native also won both the indoor and outdoor ACC titles in the event last season, including a personal-best outdoor clearance of 2.25m (7-4.5) at the outdoor championships in May.
Leon has been competing professionally from Puma in the pole vault since her graduation from UofL after a 2022 outdoor season that saw her become the first female outdoor national champion in school history while boasting a lifetime-best mark of 4.61m (15-1.5). After the conclusion of her collegiate career, the native of Grand Rapids, Mich. qualified for the 2022 World Athletics Championships in the pole vault where she placed 12th after earning fourth place in the event at last season's USATF meet.
Miller recently completed his first season with the Cardinals after transferring in from Florida, earning first team All-American recognition in the 200m and 4x100m relay, while also being tabbed as an honorable mention All-American in the 4x400m relay. The Dallas, Texas native clocked a personal-best time of 20.17 in the 200m in the preliminary round of the NCAA Championships and also holds a wind-aided mark of 19.93 in the event that he set at the UF Tom Jones Memorial.
Warner-Savage is set to compete in his first meet as a postgraduate after completing his five years in a Louisville uniform with a second team All-American performance in the 100m at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships while also anchoring the 4x100m relay to first team All-American laurels. The Snellville, Ga. native holds a personal-best time of 10.12 in the 100m while also having run a wind-aided 10.07 in the event as well.
Stephens will make his first appearance on the national stage following a freshman season that saw him rewrite the record books for the Cardinals. The native of Indianapolis, Ind. captured runner-up finishes in the men's high jump at both the indoor and outdoor ACC Championships while also earning indoor second team All-American honors in March. He boasts a personal-best outdoor clearance of 2.22m (7-3.25) after breaking both the indoor and outdoor Louisville freshman records in the event this season.
