Aliyah Welter was named a Second Team All-American as well to round out the season for the women’s squad.
AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Louisville women's track and field team capped off their season on Thursday evening, seeing Synclair Savage earn First Team All-American honors on the second day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Savage took part in the women's long jump at the national championship meet for the second consecutive season, placing ninth with a leap of 6.30m (20-8) on her third attempt of the night. After placing seventh nationally in the event during the indoor season, the junior secured her second First Team All-American honor of the year, finishing off a campaign that saw her record six of the ten best leaps in school history.
By earning eighth place, Savage scored a point for Louisville as a team, marking only the ninth time in program history the women's team has scored at the national meet.
Aliyah Welter concluded her illustrious collegiate career by earning a spot on the All-American Second Team, securing 12th place in the women's pole vault with a final clearance of 4.15m (13-7.25) for her highest individual finish at the national championship meet. The graduate student finishes her time at Louisville as the second-best female pole vaulter in school history and as one of eight Cardinals to have qualified for the outdoor national championship meet on three separate occasions.
The women's 4x100m relay of Taylor Herbert, Kiyah Yeast, Tiriah Kelley, and Savage were the lone representative on the track for the Cardinals, garnering Honorable Mention All-American distinction after a campaign which saw them rewrite the record book, running four of the top five marks in the event in Louisville history.
In the men's decathlon, Paul Kallenberg was also recognized as an Honorable Mention All-American despite being forced to retire from the competition due to injury after eight events. The sophomore continued to put his stamp on the Louisville program, winning his first ACC title in the event last month and becoming the second Louisville decathlete to ever compete at the national meet.
The men's team will conclude their season Friday afternoon when Trey Allen, Cameron Miller, and the men's 4x100m relay team. Allen will get the day started at 8:30 p.m. ET with the men's high jump before the finals of the men's 4x100m relay starts at 9:02 p.m. ET. Miller will then round out the competition for Louisville when the men's 200m finals ger underway at 10:37 p.m. ET.
