The Cardinals also set three new school records on the afternoon.
AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Louisville men's track and field team kicked off competition Wednesday evening at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, seeing a relay and an individual qualify for Friday's finals on the track.
The men's 4x100m relay team of Nolan Macklin, Cameron Miller, Jeremiah Willis, and Sterling Warner-Savage began the afternoon by shattering the school record of 38.87 that the same group set at the ACC Outdoor Championships last month, blazing to a time of 38.49 to take second in their heat and fifth overall in the semifinal round to lock their spot up in Friday's final.
Miller then returned to the track later in the evening to take part in the men's 200m, lowering his own school record in the event with a time of 20.17 that placed him eighth in the semifinals and allowed him to qualify for the event's championship race.
Warner-Savage also took part in an individual event after anchoring the 4x100 relay team to a berth in the finals earlier in the evening, placing 16th to earn Second Team All-American honors in the 100m while besting his own school record in the event by clocking a time of 10.12.
The men's 4x400m relay closed out the evening's running events with the foursome of Noah Carmichael, Miller, Robert Joseph, and Isiah Pantiere running 3:07.10 to garner Honorable Mention All-American distinction.
Bryan Hudson also stamped himself as an Honorable Mention All-American in the men's shot put after climbing from 33rd to eighth in the East Region at the NCAA East Preliminaries to punch his ticket to Austin.
Paul Kallenberg rounded out the first day's competitors for the Cardinals, as the sophomore currently sits 13thin the decathlon with 3,953 points after the first five events on the strength of a pair of personal-best marks in the 400m and the shot put.
Tomorrow's competition will begin at 1:00 p.m. ET when Kallenberg resumes the decathlon with the 110m hurdles, while Aliyah Welter and the women's pole vault as well as the women's 4x100m relay both get started at 8:30 p.m. ET.
