
2023 Field Hockey Schedule Released

Louisville will host 10 regular season contests at Trager Stadium
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville head coach Justine Sowry has released the Cardinals' 2023 schedule which includes 10 regular season home contests. The upcoming slate also features 11 opponents finished the 2022 season among the top 25 in the final National Field Hockey Coaches Association rankings while eight were NCAA tournament teams including national champion North Carolina and runner-up Northwestern.

Before starting the regular season, the Cardinals will play host to Bellarmine in a preseason scrimmage at Trager Stadium on August 18. Louisville will then head to Athens, Ohio to face Ohio University on August 20.

The Cards will open the season on Aug. 25 when Northeastern visits Trager Stadium for a 5 p.m. matchup. Louisville will then hit the road for a quick turnaround and open a three-game road swing starting with a contest at 2022 NCAA runner-up Northwestern on Aug. 27.

The following weekend, Louisville will head to Philadelphia for a pair of matches starting with a Friday neutral-site contest against 2022 Ivy League champion Princeton and will take on host Penn Sunday before returning to Trager Stadium to face Ohio State and VCU.

UofL will open Atlantic Coast Conference play against 2022 national champion North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. on September 15. A week later, the Cards return home for a contest against James Madison before heading back on the road for a midweek tilt at 2022 Mid-American Conference champion Miami (Ohio).

The Cards will wrap up the month of September with their second ACC match of the season against NCAA tournament participant Virginia on Sept. 29 which also kicks off a three-game home stand. Wake Forest will visit Trager Stadium on Oct. 6 and Central Michigan will conclude the home weekend.

Louisville will go back on the road for another midweek tilt at Indiana followed by a Friday matchup at Duke on Oct. 13. The Cardinals will play their next three games starting on Sunday, Oct. 15 against 2022 NCAA semifinalist Iowa. The home stand will continue the next weekend against ACC foe and 2022 NCAA quarterfinalist Syracuse on Friday, Oct. 20. Louisville will celebrate senior day when Appalachian State visits Trager Stadium on Oct. 22. The Cardinals will then travel to Boston College on Oct. 27 for their regular season finale

The 2023 ACC Championship will be held Oct. 31-Nov. 3 in Charlottesville, Va., at the University of Virginia's Turf Field.
About Louisville Field Hockey
The UofL field hockey team registered a 12-8 overall record after earning its fourth-straight NCAA tournament bid. The Cardinals were ranked No. 12 in the final NFHCA Coaches Poll after spending the entire season in the top 15 and reaching as high as No. 4 in the 2022 campaign.
• Louisville returns 17 letterwinners from last year's team including two-time NFHCA All-Americans Julie Kouijzer and Aimee Plumb along with fellow NFHCA All-West Region honoree Emilia Kaczmarczyk.
• Justine Sowry is entering her 13th season as head coach of the University of Louisville field hockey team. During that time, Sowry has guided the Cardinals to 165 wins along with three conference titles, including the 2021 regular season championship and 2020 ACC fall regular season crown as well as a pair of runner-up finishes in the ACC tournament. Under Sowry's tutelage, Louisville has made eight NCAA tournament appearances. After earning national seeds in 2019 and 2020, the Cardinals advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals in 2019 and reached the semifinals for the first time in program history in the 2020 campaign.
