Women’s 4x100m Relay Qualifies for Nationals to Close East Preliminaries
May 27, 2023 | Track & Field
Louisville’s ten entries to next month’s NCAA Outdoor Championships stand as the most for the program since 2009.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The women's 4x100m relay of Taylor Herbert, Kiyah Yeast, Tiriah Kelley, and Synclair Savage punched their ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Saturday as the University of Louisville track and field teams concluded competition at the NCAA East Region Preliminaries.
Coming into the day seeded 19th in the event, the foursome combined for a time of 44.10 that stood as the eighth-fastest time in the field and gave them a berth in the national championship meet with the top time qualification among teams that finished outside the top three in their respective heats.
The time also stands as a new school record in the event, besting the previous top time of 44.55 that was set at the ACC Outdoor Championships earlier this month. This season has now seen four of the top five times in program history in the women's 4x100m relay, with the top three times all coming in the last three meets.
Over the course of the four-day event in Jacksonville, the Cardinals saw seven individuals and three relays secure spots in Austin, with the ten total entries marking the most for the program since earning 14 entries in 2009.
The national qualifiers representing Louisville will look to build off the momentum from the week in Jacksonville at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas, which will take place from June 7-10.
