
Louisville Sends 28 Athletes to NCAA East Region Preliminary Round

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Louisville track and field teams qualified 28 student-athletes for the 2023 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Round, as announced by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee on Thursday.
The regional meet will be held from May 24-27 at North Florida's Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
"I'm excited to see this group continue competition at the NCAA Prelims next week," said head coach Dale Cowper. "We have had some tremendous performances in Jacksonville over the last decade and I'm confident our squads will build upon that tradition."
The field in Jacksonville features the top-48 marks in each respective event among schools in the East Region, following injury or withdrawal, with the only exceptions being the top-24 times for relays and direct qualification to the national championship meet for the top-24 marks nationally in the decathlon and heptathlon.
The top-12 event finishers from each region at the preliminary meets will advance to the 2023 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships that will take place in Austin, Texas from June 7-10.
Along with the 28 entries for next week's East Region preliminary, decathlete Paul Kallenberg became the first Louisville athlete to qualify for the national championship meet this season after the sophomore captured the first ACC title of his career with a personal-best point total of 7,742 at the ACC Outdoor Championships that stands 15th in the nation.
