
Cards Finish in a Tie for Eighth at the Morgan Hill Regional

MORGAN HILL, Calif. – The University of Louisville men's golf season ended by tying for eighth place at the Morgan Hill Regional at the Institute Golf Club in Morgan Hill, Calif., on Wednesday. The top-five finishers advanced to the NCAA Championship on May 26-31 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The Cardinals tied with Arizona at 25-over-par over the three days and were 14 shots from advancing to the next round. Louisville closed the regional by shooting a round of 11-over-par on Wednesday to finish with scores of 287-303-299-889. The Cards attempted to make a late run with 11 birdies over their final round, but a couple of double bogeys in the final holes thwarted the comeback attempt. Louisville got within six shots of advancing on Wednesday.
Mississippi State, BYU, Florida State, Baylor and Pepperdine were the five teams to advance to next week's NCAA Championship. The Tigers won the regional with a score of 1-under-par and were the only school to finish under-par for the week. Luke Clanton of Florida State took home an individual regional title by shooting 6-under-par.
Louisville had two finishers in the top 20 in senior Jiri Zuska and sophomore Sebastian Moss, who ended the tournament in a tie for 11th and a tie for 17th, respectively.
Zuska played the best of the five starters on Wednesday, carding a 1-under-par 71 to close the regional at 1-over -par. On Wednesday, Zuska was solid by recording 17 pars and one birdie on No. 7. After the birdie, he registered 11 consecutive pars as his Louisville career came to an end.
Moss was 3-over for the regional after his rounds of 70-73-76=219. He carded a 4-over-par 76 on Wednesday that kept him from finishing in the top 10. He struggled on the front nine at 5-over-par but was 1-under on the back with consecutive birdies on No. 10 and No. 11.
Max Kennedy had his string of seven consecutive top-10 finishes come to an end by ending the regional in a tie for 45th after shooting 72-79-75= 226. C.M. Mixon, who was participating in only his second event this season, tied for 61st at 15-over-par, while Mads Roddik ended the day in a tie for 64th at 16-over-par.
The Cardinals are slated to return three of the five players next season who participated in this week's regional action.
