Cards Dominate Throws on Day One of Indiana Invitational

All nine top-five finishes for Louisville on the evening came during the field events.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The University of Louisville track and field teams wrapped up their first day of competition at the Indiana Invitational on Friday, earning nine top-five finishes, all coming during the field events.
The Cardinals kicked off the afternoon with three of the top-five finishers in the women's hammer throw, led by a runner-up finish from Zoe Yeast with a heave of 56.04m (183-10). Katherine Coffey took fourth place with a mark of 55.56m (182-3) and Tiana Bazie threw a season-best of 54.70m (179-5) in placing fifth.
The men's hammer throw also saw a Louisville athlete claim silver, as Erik Fertig recorded a throw of 62.25m (204-2), the second time in his career with a throw over 60 meters. Ethan Alyea followed with a mark of 58.36m (191-6) on his way to a third-place finish.
Jorge Contreras Nazario then secured the third runner-up finish of the night for the Cardinals in the men's shot put with a launch of 17.21m (56-5.75) after Aliyah Welter placed third in the women's pole vault, clearing 4.24m (13-11) to round out the Cardinals' five podium finishers.
Two more top-five finishes followed in the long jump, as Ariel Lawrence recorded a season-best leap in the women's long jump of 5.75m (18-10.5) to finish in fourth place, while Adam Axelrod finished fifth in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.63m (21-9).
On the track, the women's 5000m saw Sydney Partyka and Madeline Castleberry both earn personal-best times, as Partyka became the first Louisville woman to dip under 17 minutes in the 5000m since the 2021 outdoor season, clocking 16:57.64.
Nolan Satterfield and J.B. Terrill picked up a pair of heat wins in the men's 1500m, with Satterfield's time of 3:52.90 besting his previous personal-best in the event by nearly three seconds.
The women's discus throw will kick off the field events on the final day of competition at 12:30 p.m. ET, while the track events begin simultaneously with the men's 4x100m relay.
