Louisville, Bellarmine to Play Wednesday as Part of Heroes Week at Patterson Stadium
April 11, 2023 | Baseball
The game will be played at 7 p.m. ET and will be free for all individuals.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville and Bellarmine University baseball programs will take the field together on Wednesday night at Jim Patterson Stadium on a night focused on community and healing throughout the city.
Louisville's two Division I universities will join together for a pregame ceremony and moment of silence in honor of the victims of Monday's tragic events in Louisville.
The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET following the city-wide vigil taking place at 5 p.m. ET and will be free for all individuals.
"Like all of us who call Louisville home, these two programs fiercely love this city," Louisville Director of Athletics Josh Heird said. "As Scott Wiegandt, Chris Dominguez, Dan McDonnell, and myself all discussed the idea of playing this game, we had one simple objective in mind – can we somehow help this city heal from the tragic events that transpired on Monday. We are hopeful this game is one way we might be able to offer a small reprieve as we navigate this time as a community."
Wednesday's game is part of Heroes Week at Jim Patterson Stadium, with a weeklong focus on recognizing the first responders in the city of Louisville. The recognition will continue through the previously scheduled Heroes Weekend three-game series against Wake Forest.
